Pack-a-thon 2010!

During the past 12 years the Prison Book Project has grown to be an organization with many dedicated volunteers, and book donations pour in regularly. But money is desperately needed for the postage to mail the books, and to buy dictionaries—the number one prisoner request.
This Pack-A-Thon will go a long way toward raising the necessary funds to keep the Prison Book Project operating this year. Our ambitious goal is to be able to raise $3000 in order to send out book packages to 1000 prisoners. Here’s how it all will work:

Download a Pledge Form (pdf or doc). Friends and family can sponsor you for the number of book packages you are able to wrap. The minimum pledge is $3.00 per package (the price of postage to send a two-pound book package). So, if you wrap 20 packages, folks who sponsored you will donate $60 to Prison Book Project. (Folks are also welcome to sponsor you for a set amount up-front)

You will select and read a letter from a prisoner, collect books for the package, wrap the package, and drop in your mail bin. And repeat! Stay as long as you want, wrap as many packages as you can!

At the end of the day, we will count the number of packages in your bin, and you will collect donations from the folks who sponsored you! Checks may be made payable to: Prison Book Project. We will also happily accept cash. Door prizes will be available to those who wrapped the most packages and/or raised the most money!!!
Although our primary purpose is to raise money, this event will be FUN!!! We’ll have music and snacks and the great company of other folks interested in supporting prisoners! Come yourself, or bring friends and form a book-wrapping team!
